Fighting for Human Rights
Congressional Human Rights Caucus
As an ardent champion for human rights, one of Tom Lantos' major accomplishments was founding the Congressional Human Rights Caucus in 1983. The Caucus focuses bipartisan attention on individual civil and human rights violations, and foreign government actions or inaction on these issues. Open to participation by all Members of Congress, the Congressional Human Rights Caucus is the leading Congressional voice in defense of human rights.
